4****Talbot Hotel Carlow
CARLOW The town of Carlow was founded by the Normans in 1207 and the county was shired (administered) shortly thereafter, making it one of the oldest and smallest counties in Ireland. Situated in the sunny southeast of Ireland, Co. Carlow's greatest claim to fame is its collection of dolmens. An English lord in the 1700s, wanted to create a version of the French Versailles in Cork, however the plans for the courthouse in Cork were mistakenly sent to Carlow and that’s why the Carlow Courthouse is modelled after the Parthenon in Athens.
