...on the Wild Atlantic Way

From Monday 15th Until Friday 19th
5 Day Coach Tour

3***Sligo City Hotel

Out at the very edge of Europe, the Wild Atlantic Way stretches for 1500 miles along Ireland’s western seaboard. County Sligo easily boasts one of the most appealing stretches of coast on the Wild Atlantic Way, with its delightfully surfable waves. Sligo Leitrim and Roscommon are blessed with majestic scenery, mighty castles and a countryside littered with the ancient past, in an area affectionately dubbed “Yeats Country”. The area is also renowned for the flamboyance of its traditional music characterized by flutes and fiddles. The principal hub, Sligo town has the best facilities for visitors with the opportunity of visits to the fine beaches of Strandhill, Rosses Point and Mullaghmore.

SLIGO CITY HOTEL is a 3***hotel ideally situated in Sligo city centre. The Sligo City Hotel is next to O'Connell Street, which offers extensive shopping and riverside restaurants. The hotel has free WiFi throughout, free daily newspapers and free limited private parking. Sligo Railway and Bus Station are a 5-minute walk away. The Sligo City Hotel overlooks Sligo Bay and is the perfect base for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. The newly renovated rooms are bright and spacious and cater for all guest group sizes. Every room features a 32-inch flat screen cable TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The en-suite bathrooms have a bath and or shower, a hairdryer and free toiletries. Dining at the Quays Restaurant at Sligo City Hotel is an experience to remember. A fusion of modern and traditional Irish dishes is served using only the freshest local produce sourced from local suppliers.

The cultural highlight of County Sligo is the stunning Lissadell House which has been extensively renovated and showcases some of Ireland’s most precious treasures. Lissadell Estate is the home of husband and wife Edward Walsh and Constance Cassidy and their seven children. They state…” we welcome visitors, during the season, to the house and grounds. After 70 years of neglect an intensive programme of restoration – without any public funding – has taken place in the House, Gardens, Stable Block and grounds since 2004 and Lissadell is once again a place of beauty. No grants of any kind were made in respect of any part of the restoration, either for the house, the gardens or any part of the grounds. Every penny spent was earned by us”.

To the east of Sligo town lies one of the Republic of Ireland’s most entrancing lakes, Lough Gill or better known as “Lake Isle of Innisfree” set beneath wooded slopes which provide the backdrop to almost 25 miles of shoreline. Following a visit to Parke’s Castle, a Plantation Fort, erected by Captain Robert Parke in 1620 we will board the cruiser ‘Rose of Innisfree’ to catch sight of idyllic ‘Innisfree’.
